COVID-19 UPDATE
The General Tommy Franks Leadership Institute and Museum Reopened June 1
After thoughtful consideration pertaining to the Covid-19 pandemic, the General Tommy Franks Leadership Institute and Museum reopened to the public on June 1, 2020. As emergency readiness is the key to resiliency and recovery, the better prepared an organization is, the more quickly and effectively it can respond to emergencies and crises, reopen and/or reintroduce programming in phases for programs for the public.
We are carefully considering both the health and safety of our employees, audiences and constituents in determining when to engage the public. The following plan of action for health precautions and for staff and visitors will be adopted until further notice. These guidelines are not exhaustive nor comprehensive in scope, but are derived as best suited for our institute and museum in accordance with the Oklahoma Nonprofit Association and the Oklahoma Museums Association recommendations for reopening in a safe environment.
Upon reopening there will be some changes inside the Museum to ensure the safety of our staff and your family:
We thank you for your ongoing support and patronage during these uncertain times and we look forward to seeing you again soon!
We will continue to monitor updates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Oklahoma State Department of Health regarding COVID-19.
Any further changes to our programming will be posted on our website and shared on social media.
Thank you,
D'Lese Travis, Executive Director, and the General Tommy Franks Leadership Institute and Museum Staff

Upon reopening there will be some changes inside the Museum to ensure the safety of our staff and your family:
- Museum Manager and/or employees who greet the public will wear a mask when greeting guests in accordance with social distancing.
- Wear a mask but not required.
- Use the hand sanitizer station at the front door.
- Note signage posted for hand sanitizer, social distancing, hand washing and masks.
- Visitor information will be entered in the guest register by the Museum Manager from behind the counter rather than a public register.
- Groups in the museum will be limited to 10 people with no personal tours.
- Gift Shop displays in multiples such as T-shirts, note cards etc. will be limited to one item for display and with additional items retrieved from inventory for purchase at visitor request.
- A Plexiglas guard will be positioned on the counter at the register for employee and visitor safety.
- Tissues will be made available for visitors.
- Visitors who are ill or showing signs of illness will be asked to wait for their group outside of the museum.
- The museum will be thoroughly cleaned with CDC approved disinfectant solutions before reopening and regularly thereafter.
- High touch points will be sanitized by employees wearing rubber gloves using CDC approved sanitary solutions between visitors. These areas include: door handles, handrails, touch screens and interactives, bathroom faucets and handles.
