Celebration of Freedom Set for May 20 & 21 in Downtown Hobart

(Hobart, Okla.) – The General Tommy Franks Leadership Institute and Museum, along with the Hobart community, will hold its 14th annual Celebration of Freedom May 20 & 21 in downtown Hobart. Events include the annual Celebration of Freedom Patriots Parade, classic car show, poker run, motorcycle show-n-shine competition, live music with the Hi-Fi Hillbillies, veterans spotlight, children’s activities, food, shopping, auction and more.
On Friday, the silent auction will be open at the Stanley Building at 300 S. Washington from noon to 4 p.m. benefiting programming of the General Tommy Franks Leadership Institute and Museum. Bidding opportunities continue on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday morning highlights include the Lions Club Breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Courthouse Square Pavilion and the golf scramble benefiting the HBT Grapplers at the Hobart Municipal Golf Course starting at 9 a.m. Shopping and food vendors will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Courthouse Square, the Museum will be open for tours from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and a blood drive will be hosted by the Oklahoma Blood Institute in the Stanley Building. The sidewalk chalk contest starts at 10 a.m. and various children’s activities including pony rides, a petting zoo, face painting, OK National Guard Bounce House and more will also be open at Courthouse Square. Live entertainment will also be at the Courthouse Square Gazebo from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The classic car show will be at Hovaka Park from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the motorcyle show-n-shine will be in front of the Museum at 5th and Main from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Registration for the poker run starts at 10 a.m. at the Museum. The route will be announced that morning and registration will be available at the event.
The Lil’ Mr. & Miss Pageant hosted by Great Plains Youth and Family Services starts at noon at the Courthouse Square Gazebo. Registration is available at CelebrationOfFreedom.com or in-person from 11:15 to 11:45 a.m. The Veterans Spotlight and presentation of the Purple Heart City and County designation will be from 3 to 4 p.m. at the Courthouse Square Pavilion followed by the local talent showcase at Courthouse Square from 4 to 6 p.m.
Evening activities include the 14th Annual Celebration of Freedom Patriots Parade starting at 6 p.m. featuring the 77th Army Marching Band and the Lawton MacArthur High School JROTC and Drill Team. Cash prizes will be awarded for adult and youth parade entries. The Oklahoma National Guard will host a military vehicle display from 6 to 8 p.m. Enjoy live music and the street dance with the Hi-Fi Hillbillies beginning at 6:30 p.m. on the Courthouse Square Stage. The Apache Fire Dancers are scheduled to perform at 9 p.m.
The Virtual Auction supporting the General Tommy Franks Leadership Institute and Museum’s educational programming will be open May 18 at 8 a.m. through May 22 at 6 p.m. The auction includes many one-of-a-kind items including celebrity memorabilia, vacation getaways, art, livestock and more.
