Discover the History of the Medal of Honor at the General Tommy Franks Leadership Institute and Museum

For Immediate Release:  Dec. 31, 2018

The General Tommy Franks Leadership Institute and Museum is proud to host “Medal of Honor – Honoring WWI + WWII Aces,” a special exhibit featuring Medal of Honor recipients from the Civil War to present including biographies and photos, as well as Medal of Honor memorabilia. The exhibit will be showcased at the Museum Jan. 7 through March 25.

“We have the utmost respect for every single Medal of Honor recipient,” said Scott Cumm, museum manager of the General Tommy Franks Leadership Institute and Museum. “We keep a year-round exhibit detailing every recipient, and then we add to that collection once a year to highlight their accomplishments. We really enjoy adding fresh content every year so that it’s never the same experience twice.”

The Medal of Honor exhibit will feature 16 posters of past Medal of Honor recipients as well as memorabilia like challenge coins, postage stamps and magazine covers. New this year is an added section on Medal of Honor recipients Captain Eddie Rickenbacker, a World War I ace, and Captain Richard Bon, a World War II ace, that features photos and history of these two accomplished aviators as well as a “Hell and Back” movie poster that showcases Audie Murphy and is based on his account as a soldier in World War II.

Visitors can also view the museum’s permanent Medal of Honor display showcasing a U.S. Army Medal of Honor and General Franks’ Patriot Award from the Medal of Honor Society.

The General Tommy Franks Leadership Institute and Museum is open Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to noon and 1-5 p.m. Admission is free. The General Tommy Franks Leadership Institute and Museum was created as a historical foundation dedicated to telling the story of the United States military and education. Its mission is to advance the development of this world class leadership training institution and museum. For more information, visit TommyFranksMuseum.org.
