The General Tommy Franks Leadership Institute and Museum Showcases “Military and the Media” Exhibit
For Immediate Release: July 15, 2018
The General Tommy Franks Leadership Institute and Museum will showcase their newest exhibit “Military and the Media” now through Sept. 1. The exhibit will be on display in the traveling exhibit room and highlights the century-long relationship between the military and the media. From war movies and their posters to newspapers and magazines, the media and the military have had a long and significant relationship.
The “Military and the Media” exhibit focuses on the ever-changing dynamic between the two, and showcases different publications ranging from 1941 to 2003. The exhibit will display more than 80 newspaper and magazine articles that cover military topics ranging from Pearl Harbor to Operation Iraqi Freedom. Visitors will also be able to view five editions of the rarely seen Yank Magazine from World War II. Yank Magazine was written by and for enlisted soldiers and officers and was originally available only to members of the U.S. Army that were stationed overseas.
“The media has always had the capability to influence the public opinion on the military, whether that be good or bad,” said Scott Cumm, museum manager. “To have this collection of articles and movies on display really allows our guests a glimpse back in time to create their own opinions.”
To learn more important facts in U.S. history, visit the General Tommy Franks Leadership Institute and Museum. Admission to the Museum is free. The Museum is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m.
The General Tommy Franks Leadership Institute and Museum was created as a historical foundation dedicated to telling the story of the United States military and education.
