General Tommy Franks Leadership Institute and Museum to Reopen June 1
For Immediate Release: May 27, 2020
(HOBART, Okla.) – Like many other businesses and attractions, the General Tommy Franks Leadership Institute and Museum was temporarily closed to visitors due to COVID-19. The Museum is set to reopen to the public on Monday, June 1 at 10 a.m.
“We missed our visitors coming into the Museum, but our top priority was and is the health and safety of the public and our team,” said D’Lese Travis, executive director. “We continued our mission through #MuseumsFromHome online content throughout the closure, which provided virtual tours and activities for all ages. However, after thoughtful consideration, we are excited to reopen our doors.”
For the health and safety of visitors and employees, there will be a few changes in which visitors should be aware. Visitors are encouraged to wear a mask, but it is not required. Groups in the Museum will be limited to 10 people and no personal tours will be conducted. Visitors will be asked to practice safe social distancing and to use the hand sanitizer station at the front door. Visitors who are ill or showing signs of sickness will be asked to wait for their group outside of the Museum.
Visitor information will be entered into a guest register from behind the counter rather by the museum manager rather than a public register and Museum Store displays in multiples such as T-shirts and notecards will be limited to one item for display with additional items retrieved from inventory for purchase at a visitor’s request. A Plexiglas guard will be positioned on the counter at the Museum Store where purchases are made and visitors welcomed.
Additionally, the Museum will be thoroughly cleaned with CDC approved disinfectant solutions before reopening and regularly thereafter. High touch points such as door handles, handrails, touch screens, interactives and restrooms will be sanitized between visitors.
“We will reopen June 1 and resume our normal hours of operation which are Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m.,” said Travis. “We will continue following our plan of action for health precautions until further notice in order to provide the safest environment possible. More details are available at TommyFranksMuseum.org.”
