Give Your Take On "Takes Of Village," Photography Exhibition By Former Hobart Resident
For Immediate Release: January 9, 2023
(HOBART, Okla.) – The General Tommy Franks Leadership Institute and Museum and photographer, Erick Perry, are offering community members the opportunity to express their own ideas of Takes of Village.
As part of the upcoming Takes of Village photography exhibition on Jan. 20 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., hosted at the Stanley Building; all ages are encouraged to provide a written interpretation of selected works for a chance to be included in an additional installment of the project at the University of Central Oklahoma’s Melton Gallery in Edmond.
Community members are encouraged to analyze an image of their choice, then write a brief description of what they see. Descriptions can be in the form of fictional short stories, personal thoughts or associated memories or artistic analysis.
Selected descriptions will be included in an installment of the Takes of Village project at Melton Gallery from March 7 to April 20.
“The idea is to allow the community which was the subject of the initial concept to now interject themselves into it,” said Perry. “By providing various viewpoints; various takes on the village we have or currently do call home.”
Takes of Village was created primarily in Hobart. Images also include locations in or near Snyder, Altus and Quartz Mountain State Park. The work is meant to serve as a representation of southwestern Oklahoman people and their surroundings. The project was completed with the support of the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition.
Erick Perry is a native of Hobart, graduating from Hobart High School in 2012. He now lives and works as a writer, photographer and videographer in Oklahoma City.
Community description submissions are preferred the night of the event. However, if additional time is desired, submissions may be scanned and emailed to [email protected] through Feb. 1.
