The General Tommy Franks Leadership Institute and Museum is Succession Planning
Executive Director D’Lese Travis Has Announced Plans for Retirement in January 2023
​For Immediate Release: October 13, 2022

(Hobart, Okla.) – The General Tommy Franks Leadership Institute and Museum’s Executive Director, D’Lese Travis, has announced she will retire at the turn of the new year. Travis plans to assist the Board of Directors in the candidate search as well as offer guidance to the successful candidate, ensuring a smooth transition to best lead the organization into the future.
 
“We are grateful for D’Lese’s dedication and leadership over the past six years,” said Col. Michael Hayes (US Army Ret.), Board of Directors Chairman. “We appreciate her drive, accountability and passion that drove us to think differently and for continuously advancing the organization to the next level.”
 
Under Travis’ direction since June 2016, the General Tommy Franks Leadership Institute and Museum achieved many noteworthy accomplishments including:
  • Earning and maintaining GuideStar’s Platinum rating since 2018
  • Earning certification for Oklahoma Standards for Excellence from the Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits
  • Cultivating more than a dozen new speakers, 46 professional competition judges and an alumni board for the renowned Four Star Leadership program
  • Opening the award-winning 9/11: Never Forget permanent exhibit and developing the Task Force Dagger temporary exhibit as well as re-imagining and reopening the Lattimore Collection exhibit
  • Earning numerous awards including the 2017 Oklahoma Main Street Business of the Year and Oklahoma Main Street Premier Special Event of the Year, the 2018 Moran Family Foundation and Inasmuch Foundation One Award, the 2018 Oklahoma Museums Association Honorable Mention Award for Outreach or Education, the 2022 OTIA Redbud Award of Merit for Outstanding Temporary Exhibit and the 2022 Oklahoma Museums Association Honorable Mention Award for Exhibits

The General Tommy Franks Leadership Institute and Museum was created as a historical foundation dedicated to telling the story of the United States military and education.
